2 must see TED talks on the keys to happiness

Many think money, success, fame and possessions lead to happiness BUT in fact science shows us that none of these things guarantee true happiness.

These two must see TED talks shed light on what it truly takes to be happy now and in the long term.

The happy secret to better work

This inspiring talk by psychologist Shawn Achor, touches on how the societal belief that we need to work hard to be successful and if we’re successful we’ll be ultimately be happy, could be fundamentally flawed.

In this fast-moving and very funny talk, Shawn argues that we are thinking about things backwards and in fact the happier we are now, the more productive, intelligent and successful we can be.

By the end of the talk, you’re really encouraged and motivated to adopt some simple techniques to train your brain to be more positive and happy in the now and join Shawn in creating a revolution of happiness.

What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness.

As the director of a 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. In this talk, he explains that the key ingredient to life long happiness comes down to creating strong, quality relationships with your partner, friends, family and community.

It’s an eye-opening talk about the importance of quality relationships and treating people well for long term happiness and longevity.

**Note to be honest this talk is a little slow to get started but hang in there it gets good.

Ultimately happiness is a choice, its a conscious choice everyday to put effort into your relationships and treat people well and a choice to scan the world for the positives now and not once you’ve achieved that next goal. History and science shows the grass isn’t always greener on the other side so the happier we are in the now, the happier and more successful we’ll be in the long run.
